Donald Gordon McArthur Endowment Fund

Since 1973, the Alberta Committee of Citizens with Disabilities has been Alberta's only provincial, cross-disability charitable organization. Our board, staff and volunteers work hard to ensure that all Albertans are given the opportunity to participate fully in society.

Our commitment to people with disabilities is not about special privileges. It is about ensuring that everyone has the same opportunity to succeed and participate based on his or her own ability. Last year, the Alberta Committee of Citizens with Disabilities received a very generous legacy from the estate of a long time Brooks resident, the late Mr. Donald Gordon McArthur, an advocate of the disability community and a long-standing member of our board of directors. After careful consideration and out of respect for the dedication Mr. McArthur had shown in his unfailing commitment to Alberta's disability community, ACCD used this legacy to create the Donald Gordon McArthur Endowment Fund.

We would like to offer those who were close to Mr. McArthur, you - his friends, family and neighbours - the opportunity to contribute to help build this fund to carry Donald McArthur's vision into the future.

Our ability to participate in society is improving. Wheelchair accessible buildings, educational supports, and specialized transportation for example, allow us to take part in activities that others often take for granted, but barriers to independence still exist and they can be devastating. Your support of the Donald Gordon McArthur Endowment Fund and the Alberta Committee of Citizens with Disabilities will help to ensure that barriers continue to be lifted and all Albertans can look forward to a future of full participation, equity, and accessibility.
